Yes, if you have a referral from a GP or a psychiatrist for a Mental Health Treatment Plan, you are eligible for a Medicare rebate. The rebate amounts are as follows:

$105.00 for a 30-minute appointment

$151.20 for a 45-minute individual session

$151.20 for a 60-minute appointment

You can receive rebates for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. After completing 10 sessions, additional consultations may be billed under a Medicare item used by a general practitioner, depending on the presentation.

After we process your payment, we can also process your rebate via our online system, and Medicare advises that the funds will appear in your bank account within 2-3 business days.

As a medical practitioner, fees are not covered by Private Health Insurance. Please contact your private health insurer for further information on your coverage.

The fee will be automatically billed to your credit/debit card upon completion of the consultation. By storing your credit/debit card details (in an encrypted fashion) while booking the first session, you confirm your acceptance of these fees and give permission for the card to be used as described.

A full fee applies if the appointment is cancelled less than 24 hours in advance. This policy is strictly enforced.

No, the fees are time-based and remain the same regardless of whether the consultation is in person, by telephone, or by video.

Medicare safety nets support people who have high out-of-pocket medical costs for services provided out-of-hospital. Anyone enrolled in Medicare is eligible for these safety nets. Services Australia keeps a tally of your MBS service expenses. Once you or your family have reached the Safety Net, your out-of-pocket costs will reduce to only 20% of the out-of-pocket costs (full fee minus the applicable Medicare rebate).

“You need to register yourself to Medicare for the safety net services.”

For more information, please visit the Medicare website: Medicare Safety Nets.

You will need to make an appointment with your GP, who will assess whether you are eligible for a Mental Health Treatment Plan.

No, you do not need a referral. You can make an appointment without one, but you will need to pay the full amount for your sessions out of pocket. (Some session could be covered under medicare depending on the presentation, ask Dr. Jahan for confirmation)

In some circumstances, such as if you do not have a regular GP or your GP is unavailable, a mental health care plan can be completed by Dr. Jahan. However, it is recommended to have the care plan with your regular GP for continuity of care. You can discuss with Dr. Jahan for further information and eligibility.

No, unfortunately Dr. Jahan does not see clients from these services.

No, Dr. Jahan does not see clients solely for the purposes of assessment and does not provide court reports.

No, Medicare does not cover sessions for couples, only individuals. If you have private health insurance, it’s worth checking with your provider to see if they offer any form of rebate for couples therapy.

After making your first appointment, you will receive an introductory email confirming your appointment date and time. This email will also outline information about fees and rebates, and details about the location. If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan, please bring this paperwork along with a referral letter from your treating GP or psychiatrist to your first appointment.

At the beginning of your first session, you will be briefed on important paperwork, including basic personal information (such as your name, date of birth, address, and contact details) and a consent form covering issues such as confidentiality, fees, and other important information about sessions. If you have any questions regarding the sessions, we will try to answer them.

The first session is usually about developing a thorough understanding of your concerns. We will try to obtain relevant background history, including information about your family, social relationships, work history, and any past counselling. Based on this information, we will help you understand what might be triggering and maintaining your current issues. If time allows, we will also develop a collaborative and flexible plan for future therapy sessions.

Sessions usually require at least 45 minutes. The first session is 60 minutes to obtain more in-depth information regarding both physical and mental health. Shorter sessions of 20 or 30 minutes are available upon discussion with Dr. Jahan.

The number of sessions varies based on the presentation and requirement of therapy. This is largely dependent on the nature of the mental health condition and what you hope to achieve. Sometimes people come to therapy for a one-off session or a few sessions to discuss a specific issue or concern.

All information disclosed in your session is confidential, with some exceptions:

If you are at risk of harm to yourself or someone else.

If we learn about harm to a child or an older person.

In relation to court orders.

If any of these situations arise, we will discuss them with you.

You can book an appointment via phone or an online booking form. You will receive an email confirming your appointment time, date, and location, as well as an intake form. You will also receive an SMS reminder 24 hours before your first appointment.

With your consent, we are happy to contact your GP and share information related to your therapy. Before any communication with your GP, Dr. Jahan will discuss it with you and confirm your consent. You can opt out of sharing information with your GP if you choose.
